Actually, not that bad. Latest chapter out is 17.2.
So I have absolutely seen much, mich worse with infinite backlog in comparison.
The artist is just taking his time, probably doing half a chapter each month or something.

While the story beats are different from the novel, my best guess is he'll still be rated as having no mana after this arc and be expelled/quit and then he'll meet the "new group" who he learns that his mana is actually batshit insane from and start training seriously on how to use his powers. The novel didn't even have this in it though and he basically skipped straight to meeting the "new group." So, they could just not exist in the manga period
