She cannot just "leave him". They're engaged and by Japanese law leaving would be a breach on contract and he can sue her for damage basically, which he's basically been trying to do the whole time by making her look unfaithful with the rape earlier.

I genuinely did not know that was a thing. (´･ω･｀) I figured Japan had adopted the western style of engagement, where either party can break off (at least I think that's how it works in my country, I haven't bothered to check at any point. Forever alone and all that, yadda yadda...). So police and/or lawyer isn't an option either then? Still, I do think this whole situation is fucked on both sides, I'm not really sure who's side to take here. I'll formulate a proper opinion once more chapters are out and we see the situation unfolding.
