I'm conflicted. On one hand megane-chad is right. On the other hand, that guy will run back to her to finish, what he started. Best case she breaks up, because of "You tried to sacrifice me!" and worst case she says something like, "Why are you still alive? I paid that guy!" and he sues her. Later part would be horrible and she could have already had the first part. There is no easy way out with scum like that. Victims have to go horrible lengths to escape such situations, while culprits nearly always have the easy way out, whenever they like, and have nothing to lose, but all to win. They even do not suffer as much as their victims do. In most cases they are totally fine with their situation. As long as such favorable situations for that kind of scum are hold up, those kind of crimes are continuing to happen.
But honestly I have no idea, what small change, that wouldn't affect society in a very bad way, would change that. Something, that in the end can't be used by swindlers themselves, by changing their strategies. How about some kind of law, that would put both parties at a disadvantage/loss, but the victim would lose much less than if he/she would suffer through the whole ordeal. Something that cuts the profit for swindlers so badly, they end up in the red. Something that makes it nearly impossible to make a profit. It's not justice, but it would help. But in the end everyone on the planet, that is somehow dissatisfied, would accuse everyone else to be a swindler (even if there is honestly no swindling involved at all), to make the other party lose out as revenge, even if they themselves lose.
