"Because I'm weak" - No, bad author. You don't get to do this.

In what way is this guy weak? Physically? He broke a demon bird's beak with a single punch. Mentally? He outsmarted said demon bird who is a highly trained assassin. Emotionally? The guy had the resolve to fight said demon bird in the first place, knowing he would likely get killed and the thing is like 2 times his size.

Under no circumstance is this guy considered weak. I'd understand if he said "I'm not strong enough" and referred to the possibility of living life without his wife because that's a weakness I (and anyone really) can sympathize with. Perhaps that's what he was trying to go for and worded it poorly? I unno, it just feels like generic shonen trope talk. Decent chapters though, will see what happens next.

@Hitspark "Because I'm weak" isn't entirely wrong. He is strong by human standards, but not in comparison to the youkai. He outsmarted the owl, yes, but it was more of taking the opportunity that presented itself than anything. He already had the mountain fully set up for this kind of encounter, and he successfully exploited the fact that the owl was underestimating him. He let the owl go and it comes back fully prepared, that opportunity will hardly present itself again

@landstalker I mean, we've seen the guy take down two assassin yokai. I'm not so sure if he's good just by human standards.

Whether he was being opportunistic or not, it doesn't feel right to me to say "he's weak" when he's choking out a demon. Pre-planning the area of your fight is actually a great tactic and it's something humans do all the time, so I'd say he's pretty top level human right now. Especially since he did all this on a shoe-string budget because he was repairing his house all at the same time.
