@Esasaeriri I understand your point and their profession has a... unfortunate past, to say the least, but i think the "children" status in this particular case is because the Maiko is the infant stage of the Geiko so for this event they are benefited because of the desire for their protection and well being.

@DjAlexDubCheck it's short for "shaking my head" basically what @zokoi19 said. Like you can't wrap your head around something and just shakes your head in disappointment.

@Esasaeriri Middle school is compulsory education. Can maiko really be that young in modern times? They would still need to be receiving full middle school education in addition to the maiko one. Since high school isn't obligatory, it makes sense a youth could simply not go to high school and instead become a maiko full-time. Though that being said, I'm obviously no expert on the Japanese education system.

@oichifan39 To be honest, it's pretty strange. Japanese kids and teens are very fond of this stuff, which is why it constantly appears in manga and anime, especially as a childhood flashback.
