Ah, I think we're beginning to see what the issue was: at some point they'll be stepping on each other's toes in terms of clientele. One has to go for the other to advance further as a maiko.

Ending up competing with one another... yeah, I can see that being the problem. Very sad oof. This has been too adorable of a ride for such a sad oof.

I don't think there's bad blood between them, at the start of the flashback back in chapter 240 they seem to recall the memories with fondness.
I feel like they are still besties and simply meet in private as friends. And Momoko does not visit the manor since, like in this chapter, she doesn't really seem to care about this stuff and has no need to keep false pretenses with a true friend

Yeah, I just can't see anything else being in line with this manga's tone. Chikako loves the house and what goes with it, and Momoko loves being a Maiko. All there is to it, really. I mean, I am sure if she had some bad blood with Chikako, she never would have taken on someone from Saku House as her protege.
