Well I guess one interpretation to this is that life doesn't have an ending, it just goes on, in this case a bit bitter sweetly but mostly pleasantly

The way both Kenta and Kiyo's eyes sparkles when they hold each other's hands. It's very subtle, as subtle as that famous Japanese phrase "The moon is beautiful tonight", which is the translation to the English phrase "I love You". Then Momohana graduating as a Maiko and chose Kurokami, a heartbreak song, as her graduation dance. Thankful for her experience and saying goodbye to her first love. This manga's love story is very beautiful and subtle.

I disagree that Kiyo needs growth or a goal of anything like that. Kiyo is loving and living her life, making the best out of her situations. I think it's very realistic. A lot of people in their life ended up doing the job they're doing because of happenstance. Some are very lucky like Kiyo and end up really loving their job too.
Kurokami ("Black Hair") is the graduation dance for all Maiko, Momohana did not have a choice.
Here's a short explanation:

I posted a video of the dance in ch. 294 if someone is interested.
Apart from that, I agree with your post.

Man. How wild to see this one wrap up. I really can't be anything but greatful- 300+ chapters is nothing to sneeze at. And this series had such an incredible sense of love to it. Communicating that love, the art, these towns, the people... all in one last, beautiful dance of heartbreak and graduation.

We close the book on Sumire's time in the manor at the same time as we close on this story, and the sweet and faintly bitter, but precious feelings of youth.

The seasons change....

You gotta have a good sob, you know....?

that was cozy and comforting from start to finish. solid characters and development, with very unique theme and settings. not everyday you get stories with geisha and their caretaker. very educational as well. the pacing can be slow at times as well kinda repetitive, but expected for episodic SOL. the ending also pretty conclusive and satisfying as well. 9/10. one of better SOL series i read in recent year.

How appropriate for a cooking manga to end with a nothing burger...
