Just saw the scene of Tanikaze realizing Hoshijiro was alive in the anime (Episode 6 22:09) and I think the manga did it way better. For some reason they added some really tense music, and you don't get to see the snowfall afterwards. His reaction also just isn't as moving

Yeah pretty much. I think it had to be synchronised to ensure that the chain would not notice. But Nagate fired early due to the false signal
