Well in Elma's case, I imagine it makes using tools easier, like her trident. Additionally, being smaller makes it easier to dodge attacks, so there are advantages to it.

Sure, but at the same time the dragons all have unique personalities, so I imagine some would care less about pride than others as long as they win. Tohru and Elma in particular are two of the strongest dragons alive, capable of bringing about the apocalypse if they so choose. I think by now they couldn't care less about how they look when fighting.

Looking humanoid is also probably just easier to manage since they're smaller. I imagine they'll have to be in that form for the upcoming tournament.

That doesn't make sense. Why would a human form is easier to manage than their original dragon form? For example just look at what Elma said at this chapter, she is having difficulties making her own clothes with her scale. Tohru also said the more dragon feature she hides, the more uncomfortable she feel
