As someone whose first exposure to this series was through the anime, it's kinda interesting how much more wholesomely Fafnir and Takiya's relationship is portrayed there compared to in the manga. There's much less emphasis on him living parasitically off of Takiya's dime, and while somewhat begrudging, he comes to terms pretty quickly with the fact that he does actually like Takiya and value his companionship. Meanwhile in the manga, he's evidently still in heavy denial about / doesn't understand his own feelings toward their friendship after several years. It's actually quite the contrast.

This isn't necessarily a complaint, just something I find interesting.

The way I understand it is that Fafnir only considers others as “foes” disregarding many connotations that comes with the word itself.

The type of “foe” then defines the meaning of that existence to him. For instance, to us him and Takiya are good buddies, hence to him, Takiya is a fierce opponent. Similarly for Tooru, he acknowledged their meeting and her growth by describing how she changes as a “foe”. Again both disregard the “hate” that’s associated with the word “foe”.

Kobayashi is his “worst enemy” as she is the most significant individual in his social circle, without her the “group” cease to exist and her actions affects everyone.

That said he’s twisted in a way so all other interpretations are equally valid in my opinion. It’s just fun to ponder about.
Your interpretation is so far the most interesting one. She is indeed the central figure of their community, and despite being a mere human, she is influential beyond imagination.

I personally consider this “enemies” as a symbolism of the fact that he thirsts for battle and is not likely to trust people. His “enemy” is based on three categories: the power they have in a battle, how much they influence his life on a daily basis, and how much he knows about them.

Kobayashi is the human that influences everyone around him and holds mysterious power that I don’t think follows Fafnir‘s version of common sense.

That is really a reason to be threatened.
