Aah, Iyu showed an opening.

The butterfly larvae seems to work like devil.
Has a wish ==> need power ==> I can grant you power, but at a cost ==> deal made
And they take what emotion or memory available for them to eat, so it can be random.

Ayumi’s butterfly is different. She seems to be impressed by Ayumi’s resisting, and decide to fancy Ayumi’s resolve in expectation of the sweet taste of watching Ayumi later breaks down after suffering and ready to give up everything.

Wondering on how sensitive the larvae are.
Towa tried to change Ayumi’s butterfly to black, and met resistance. But this is a mature butterfly.
Would the larvae be as sensitive towards changing color, or all of them still don’t actually have a color yet.

She has already explained during the meal that everyone lose earthy desires as a part of the enlightenment EXCEPT for the desire to protect humanity. I like to think Towa is acting in genuinely good faith, though the consideration is not entirely for Ayumi's wellbeing.

Oh. I see. With her love for Reika awake she's free to love the more important and adorable Iyu. Iyu saying what we were all thinking about Reika. But wait. Love isn't erased. Reika's love for Ayumi was erased and she latched on to Towa. But Wait! What I'm getting is that Ayumi's love for Iyu was hidden but stronger than the one for Reika. I need Iyu's love for Ayumi to persevere. Wait! Her platonic love for Reika us in the process of being erased!
What do you mean "her love for Reika awake" ? she always love Reika, and the whole deal is she awake then she can let go of feeling for Reika.
If you mean, she awake so she can feel love again now, this whole scene only showing "i want to met Iyu", i think it just to prove she not love the ability to love, she did not really love love emotion.

as to why she didn't change so much like Reika, Towa said she is special, and her transform is pretty much new thing and is the first time this have ever happen. i think you make it over complicate. She was close with Iyu, now that she can let go of her first love, she can cherish Iyu and grow to love her.

As I was reading this, my assumption was that Ayumi was gonna be found out, Iyu would be killed as punishment (as she's just someone worthless on the Farm), and Ayumi would spiral further away from Love. But I guess with Iyu awakening here, she'll just end up being part of Ayumi's sect that probably exists just to burn it all down.

Though I guess, even if she joins Ayumi, it's possible the other Noble Butterflies will still kill her to make a point to Ayumi when she inevitably rebels against something.

Man I sure hope Iyu's awakening is a good thing, because I couldn't help but feel a huuuuuge deathflag for her... Between her death, being manipulated by Reika in some ways, everything could go wrong.
On another note, the other queens look fine.
Thanks for the!

Not Towa.
I mean Ayumi’s butterfly from chapter 5.

We haven’t seen any other transformation besides Reika, so what we know is just hearsay about how they change. But it’s possible Reika’s one of the extreme case because her butterfly ate an important part defining her personality.
Ayumi’s butterfly seems to eat the emotion Ayumi has for Reika, but there are still many other emotions left in her.

I’m guessing the butterflies are more opportunistic than scheming. They don’t exactly target something specific, but just the easiest emotion/memory they can chomp. And if the most common emotion driving the girls to want more power is love, then it make sense those got eaten, because that’s what they’ve been presenting.

I kinda forget who is who.
After a reread, i realize Iyu is only in the first 2 chapter, That why the girl that run to MC cry when she awaken and survive have different color hair. Yeah, she is another girl MC met since chapter 3 during the previous battle.
Which make me wonder, why even create the new girl Yotsuba in the first place ? you could combine them to just one character, just bring Iyu to that mission too, and fill that same role ? unless this gonna turn into a harem so you need to create more girl that just give all flag to just one girl

this lead to the possibility of Reika redeem pretty high and joint the harem. why create the chapter 5, showing the old Reika truly love MC. showing that, the shitty Reika is once different and was worth it. Since, if you want to just a shitty Ex, with some change in personally and not be shitty, everything is already good.

You might want to consider that not every girl the main character talks to is automatically a love interest. It's difficult to explain something so basic, but I'll try: a story usually needs characters, and it gets boring if their interactions are emotionless. The hero of any typical adventure story meets all sorts of people on their journey because it helps the world feel bigger and more real. So Yotsuba is not inherently a pointless character just because Iyu exists.

That still only makes a total of two characters that Ayumi is on friendly terms with, by the way. These girls live a proper nightmare of an existence and have nobody to lean on other than their comrades; I don't think two girls appreciating Ayumi's presence is something that needs special justification.
