That translation note could be left after the end of the story. You could change "glasses" to, for example, "low eyesight" and you'd keep the joke without taking us away from the story and without sacrificing something too important from the plot.

At least make it a footnote, the way it is now is too intruding -- it's in the middle of the panel!
