@shoker IIRC you don't get the government notice until both parties are 16. And guys generally don't get theirs when they're 16, they usually have to wait a few years to find out, simply because their partners are younger.
As much as I can understand the benefits of arranged matches, imagine how frustrating and restraining it must be to know that every day after you turn 16 you might get a government notice. I mean, you could go through until you're 21 (that one character, the one who didn't want an otaku, said her partner was 5 years older) and decide 'well maybe this person I've met could be worth dating for a while, I might not get my notice for years yet', and then you could really fall for them and have things thrown into turmoil with a notice.
Tbh, with the Nikasa thing, and possibly with Takasaki too, I think all their testing has thrown up some anomaly. Nikasa's probably gay (or maybe that's my inner BL fan wish) and idk, maybe Takasaki is infertile or something? Those two things would be obvious hindrances to a 'happy hetero marriage'.
