Man, so many salty comments of lonely fucks. There's a big difference between an ex you break up with due to issues and an ex you break up with due to circumstance. There were no hard feelings, nor big break up reason. They just got focused and spent on stuff outside the relationship and are both at the same place - tired and dead inside. Now they're both realizing it and trying to gain work life balance back.

Basically they got busy with IRL shit and stopped spending time with each other, and were distant, except when they got drunk. Basically friends that fucked when drunk. This isn't particularly healthy, so they split up. Now they're basically burnt out and stressed from constantly working and wanna just chill without complicating things. Less than dating, but more than just friends. Best friends with benefits basically? For now. Really obviously setting up a good relationship, they just don't realize it yet as they're thinking traditional relationship (aka dating, marriage, etc) is the only way relationships can exist. Being best friends but also loving each other is also fine, and normal for a lot of us.
