I still don't think it's romantic yet but it's getting there. He's desperately trying to to understand her and she's just not responding to his (in his eyes) sincere attempts and it's driving him crazy.

honestly, at this point, it's still not clear what kind of affection he had for her considering how she acts around him which basically manipulating him in a way
it's also not weird for a father or sibling that are close with their daughter or sister are curious about their family members activity

This chapter annoyed me a bit.
All it too was one scene in a drama that she didn't understood and her mother needed to explain for Natsumi to change her behavior completely.
Makes no sense for her to be gushing about that being a "love letter" from Fumi after she gave a very clear warning to Ayano to not trust him just a few chapters ago. That being a Love Letter should make her feel what Ayano was at a greater "risk" now.

It may be true that he is "attracted to her", but this doesn't mean this attraction is necessarily sexual. Ayano is a lonely child and he is sympathetic to that.

Also, going buy he most recent chapter it does really seem like this will be more like After the Rain.
There's no way Fumi will put his hands on Ayano. Even if she tries to force herself in he'll resist.

I wouldn't put too much effort in trying to understanding her line of reasoning. She's quite contradictory. In chapter 9 when she heard about how Ayano went to his place she was somewhat worried but curious at the same time.

Right after she finds out that Fumifumi is safe and in fact doesn't view Ayano that way she does a 180 and is disappointed that he views Ayano as a kid rather than a woman. On one side she wants her friend to be safe but at the same time wants her love to bloom.

In the words of Shiraki-san "It's better to think of girls that age as aliens."
