I think he hid so he could find out if Ayano was meeting with a boy. But when he heard the words Ozeki-kun he lost patience. If not he really could have just called out to Ayano instead of stalking her like prey.

Can someone explain what this panel does? It seems this last statement is the catalyst that pushes Isshiki to find Ayano after all, but I don't see why. He's been dodging any inquiry regarding whether he harbors feelings for Ayano, but this statement somehow convinces him to do the thing that might (it won't, but he's overly self-conscious and would think it would) implicate him?
