Ahh, the classic Japanese romance trope, introduce the "competitor" in order to push the main ship forward. Of course nothing will happen between them, it's just to motivate them to be honest with their feelings. Wish they would come up with another method sometimes though, it's a bit boring seeing it in almost every single one even after all this time.

Y'know what, I'm happy to see this trope happening here because otherwise the MCs were just gonna keep beating around the bush, sort of being in denial about having romantic feelings at all in general, so someone breaching the concept of romantic feelings and giving a demonstration for them about how to act on them (and ofc creating jealousy to motivate them) is all appreciated and suggests that the story is actually serious about moving towards progress instead of just delaying it forever.
