Wow. That whole sequence was horribly written. Its not even misdirection, the flow of events outright LIES by omission to the audience. Then feeds you a ham-handed reversal sequence right after to paint Kurosawa in a better light. He still left Reiko to freeze to death after her fall and deliberately tried to manipulate a teenager into potentially taking his own life on icy mountain range. He's not a good person, he not an antihero, he's just shit.

i think its well written, however its certainly not a redemption. He just becomes a more complex character.

Imagine carrying the burden of your lover who died cuz of you, imagine having the world and u urself hating, blaming and calling ur murderer. Carrying that for 10 years and blaming and punishing yourself, no one to talk to no one to understand and u can't take the load off ur chest. And people commenting about him who just sit at home and cry over little things would never understand the pain he's been through.

The world blamed him and called him a murderer because he told them to blame him and call him a murderer, shocker. I don't envy the dude's situation, but everything that happened after her death he put onto himself. He's also actively causing tons of emotional pain and turmoil to her family and relatives because they no doubt think the guy that killed her is currently just walking around Scott free and that they'll never see justice.

Yeah i don't know what the guy saying it was good writing is on about. The psychology of the character doesn't even make sense
