I guess he couldn't take leaving Niimi alone after he decided to tell him all about his girlfriend. He probably thought that it was better to hear Niimi's last words rather than coming back and finding him dead

To be realistic, hopefully you care enough to comment. Nimi would’ve died either way if he came down or stayed with him no matter what. I’m not a mountain climber myself but I felt like the trek going down and especially with that blizzard Happening outside and its dark too would’ve took too long…
