I think he might be a better lead than Tadano. While Tadano might be best girl, he's a bit too perfect you know? Not that he isn't awkward or makes mistakes, but rather he's the epitome of what an average guy would be to the extreme of he would be the ideal boyfriend.
Meanwhile, this guy can't talk to girls, has intense insecurities that he's working on and is overall experience character growth.
Can you really say that, as a character, Tadano has really changed from the first chapter? He's always been kind, always understanding, and a part of Komi's character development.
