@undulant : Back when I was in high school, I got booted off a school project and nearly suspended because some girl tried picking a fight with me and I had the audacity to defend myself. Which is to say she repeatedly hit me and I back-knuckled her in the face. Pretty much the entire school hated me for a few days over that stupid double-standard... But she deserved worse.
It isn't like I was a tough guy either. I was a skinny weed. And much as I play it up, I was just trying to wave her away.
