That's the intent. Make it easy to read once, then hard to ever again.

"Download our app, install our service, and hope you don't lose your access otherwise you have to pay for it all over again."

"Why buy something when you can pay for it endlessly? After all it's only $X.XX a month, so cheap, less than a single volume for full access to every manga we publish, what are you complaining about?"

"Oops, we lost the license, guess you have to find it again on whatever new publisher bought the rights, if any do."

If you are paying money for anything but hard copies, you are a sucker.
bro, it's FREE to READ. it same concept as mangaplus that has been going for 3 years.

I'm really confused as to why people have such a hard time understanding how good a thing for the series a simulpub is.
This is opening an actual legal and legitimate avenue for (some) English readers to read the chapters. It gives the series more exposure, it is beneficial for Oda-sensei, and everyone gets their chapters much faster than we could provide them.
If it's not available in your region, you can simply keep doing what you've been doing this entire time: read it through unofficial means. Be it aggregators or using a VPN. Nothing's changed except for where you'll be reading.

Sure, region locking sucks, but it being available to some people is much better than it being available to none.
Life goes on.

That being said, working on this series was a great experience. I'm sad it did not last any longer than it did, and I really wanted to bring this series to completion, and so did the rest of the staff, but we'll live through it. Thank you all for tagging along for the ride.

It's not "FREE to READ". It's "install our app we definitely aren't using to collect and sell your data, get a set amount of content to read for free, then pay for the rest or if you want to read a second time. Oh and here's a bunch of ads shoved in your face."

This is such a stupid contradictory statement. "It's good because the creator gets paid, but who cares if people literally can't access it because they can just pirate it". Simulpub is good. Region locked simulpub is stupid. A real simple concept that still manages to evade some people.

This sucks balls. And it sucks even more because I did take a glimpse at Viz's work through alternative means (which have not caught up to the latest releases, mind you), and it's absolutely a downgrade. Chock full of the "complete localization at the expense of everything else, and fuck anyone who wants a more culturally faithful translation" mentality to "translation" that I've always hated about official translations.

No, thank you, I'm rooting for another scanlator group to take over doing this manga, hopefully with about the same level of quality as previous chapters.

Like hell we can. I just tried, and it said that it's region-locked. Stop spreading lies.

I never said it wasn't region locked. I said the app didn't need to be downloaded. Reading is important.

You literally can't go onto their website from an IP outside the US
I'm literally doing it right now.

"At this time, only fans in the U.S. and Canada can read free VIZ Manga chapters or subscribe to access the VIZ Manga digital library."

You're leaving out an entire country north of the US.

Ok, but that doesn't exactly help anyone outside of NA.
South America, Europe, or anywhere else? Screw em, I guess

I'm tired of all of these region lock. Every time I wanna read something great, it's only to find out it got simulpub on North American platform without any way to read it. I guess I will have to wait for the French physical copy to catch up so in a few years.

Well, Viz's interface is kind of assy, but it's to be expected. I've been trying to do this type of read for MHA and OP, so I guess I'll give this a try. I want the series to be recognized in popularity and financially.

No it's not. This opens an alleyway for some people to contribute. The rest can keep doing the same as they were before. Overall a net positive. Doesn't take much to realize that "some people can positively contribute" is better than "no one can positively contribute". Everyone else is in the same boat as we all were before: piracy. Difference is now the number of people that must resort to that can actually go down.

The real losers here are viz that are missing out on potential revenue, but there is a 99% chance that it's their licensing deal that forces them down that route, who knows what contract they signed with Shogakugan.

bro, just visit the site for once, you can read it from website, without login, barely any ads, simulpub of course not everything is free, it still business after all, but don't accuse something mallicous without proof. and you are blatantly wrong.

it's more likely to do with legality and taxes. and they can only work within framework of US regulation (and canada included because free trade deal and such i guess).

Well, guess I'm only ever rereading this on ad-ridden aggregator sites. Simulpub is fine-ish for following along, but complete dogshit for any sort of archival purposes, as they delete their shit either after a set time or after the license expires. Always a question of how long that content will remain accessible to anyone, region lock notwithstanding. Definitely not a model like the rest of the site, where I can go read 20+ year old manga in their entirety right now with no problems.

Imagine asking people who have been reading manga for free via pirated contents to pay for their manga LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

At least viz doesn't suck as much as k-manga though, since you can technically read it for free with vpn. Most people just gonna read it on aggregator sites, but it is what it is. Biggest downside is that viz resolution SUCKS MASSIVE BALLS.
