That's where you're wrong, at least if using the WN version. Back in the WN, instead of showing all the story behind the drooling bird and the apprentice, we had a time skip of a few months, the apprentice and the drooling bird's human form showed up all of a sudden but since it's been whole months instead of a couple of days, MC actually power leveled, his current level actually surpasses red loli's in the event, but red loli also got stronger, Hiiro is now only weaker than Aquinas in the demon kingdom, and since Aquinas is by far one of the strongest beings in the worlds, what this means is that MC is around Judom's level. But this didn't really make the story boring, because just like how Iraora was hiding his power, so did the world have many hidden baddasses here and there

Heavy Spoilers Ahead
Sadly you don't have the whole story, the whole tournament arc actually makes sense, regardless of how people will dislike it just because it's a tournament arc.
The main reason behind this arc is that a new enemy had shown up, and just like how Xaos was attacked, the Beast Kingdom suffered heavy losses by unexpected tragedies of their own, both countries were in no condition to go to war, else they would risk an attack by a hidden enemy of both, so they decided on picking their strongest fighters and settling it on a safer way, more importantly Thanks to Red Loli's proposition they managed to find a way to actually make peace with the Beast kingdom, which is why this tournament arc became a viable thing.
There's nothing idiotic about this arc, and it wasn't that bad either.
