Being a NEET is quite specifically a modern thing isn't it? Now, being a NEET like she is, i.e not helping her mom around the house us definitely bad but consider traditional households where the women were at home while the men are out to work. Technically the women were NEETs but I'm sure no one would label them as such. I'm not talking about housewives, that's a bit like its own job in a way. Traditionally in my country it is the right upon a man's daughters, mother, and both paternal and maternal aunts to seek a place to live, food, clothes and such from him and he must provide best he can for them.
So it'd be common in said households for there to be these women who in every sense of the word is not in education, employment, or training. Unless you consider it training to care for household affairs just without a certificate. And for these women people don't degrade them by calling them NEETs or any such words. Hence again I conclude a NEET is quite specifically a modern thing, being a NEET is neat isn't it?
