It's getting triangular! I'm inclined to root against Mashiro and for Atsuko, if only because Mashiro keeps pushing boundaries while thinking about breaking Chiaki's heart. But I think that Atsuko stays a losing heroine while Mashiro's 'Operation, date 'em and break 'em" is going to backfire when she falls for Chiaki for real.

I don't see that happening, because even in this era of manga, the main characters tend to not "lose" in games of romance. But it'd be interesting to see, and wouldn't be wholly out of pocket for this exact situation and dynamic, either.

As @flowsthead said, there's a significant difference between a rugpull by the author and a built-up narrative between multiple characters in any sort of non-linear relationship dynamic.

And I don't think I advocated for the former.

page 26. if this is a direct translation then ok, but also its reasonable that someone mixes up 2 terms for odd words. but the word a word made by mushing multiple words together is PORTMANTEAU, not ONOMATOPOEIA. onomatopoeia is words made from mimicking sounds - like beep, vroom, prrrr, ect.

My bet is that Mashiro breaks Chiaki's heart as per current twisted plan, and then Chiaki moves on swiftly with Atsuko. The twist is that that relationship doesn't challenge Chiaki or push her to new places in a way that Mashiro does and which Chiaki in hindsight realises she's come to like. And Mashiro is seething with jealousy realises that maybe breaking women's hearts because of a fetish[? Was it ever established why she does it] is a bad idea actually. Chilli parts from Atsuko amicably and Mashiro puts in all the effort to demonstrate her willingness to reform her behaviour.
