Shouldn't the dude should find her a hobby? Playing piano, growing flowers, whatever it is, something she would become interested in and could invest her time joyfully in. Then she would naturally go less back to cleaning and counting wood grains. I don't get how he intends to make her really happy if she's never going to do anything out of her own free will, because of her desire and ambitions.
I feel like the author doesn't quite have what it takes to write a really smart character. As such, the author obviously should only make stories where such people don't exist as central characters.
