Killing intent eyes / aura incoming?

Oh sure make the self sufficent and self motivated female character completely worthless weak and in need of saving so the male character has a chance to show off some macho nonsense, bad copy paste plot, I blame the editor.
Being a web comic I doubt there's even an editor to blame in the first place.

Sleep can have effects like that, so while I agree it's a weak (ha!) reason, it's also at least tenable.

I found her sudden weakness funny, especially since I expected her strong "begone" at the start of the chapter to work. It came rather close to lampshading the situation, I thought.

Beyond that, it seems like too much effort to get too mad at this kind of development.

As if women don't appreciate a man that can throw down for their sake...

I'm sure this manga is oriented towards men, and I've seen this genre of scenario set up better (but in more serious serializations), but all that means is that this kind of scenario has universal appeal.

You see in Japan every woman has sex with random sketchy dudes every day because even strong willed or powerful women just stutter and mumble unless a plucky love interest is around to save them.

Ah, the "defense from douchebags" trope. It's timeless, and typically "harmless" thematically. Though to be fair, it's application has an incredibly wide range, from very brief and minor, to near rape/death... Personally, if the usage matches the "tone" of the manga, or contributes significantly (tends to happen with the more extreme end of the range), the overly cliche nature doesn't bother me. It's a LITTLE random here, but it's purpose seems relatively transparent.

As ever, thank you for scanlating.
