But why is the car a "normal" one? (I.e. not Japanese or English, i.e. it's made for driving on the right side of the road, while in Japan one drives on the left side).

(My guess would be the mangaka doesn't have a driver's license or even ride cars a lot, and just took what they see in movies, especially action movies / non-Japanese movies. But there might be some thought about a cheap import.)
