Hmm, I see it like this, he blurts out his perverted misunderstanding, she says she's OK with it (his request), he thinks she's just that easy and refuses to be another person who takes advantage of her. Thus this stupid but delicate balance, that could  easily be broken, is maintained.

He needs the brains or balls to just nod and say yes or she could say she wants it instead of she's fine with it, because that's similar to how she accepts others' requests.

But if they did that, there'd be no story, apparently. I don't drink but I need one...
