Huh, I guess the people of the castle only know he's slain a dragon but not all of them know he's tamed one. Else they should've realized this is no dragon attack but the one he tamed considering it didn't outright kill him.
I like the fact that they had a plan B for the rescue team, send Gloria to raise a ruckus in the city for a distraction. It's not just "slay all the guards with brute force" and escape. Furthermore her appearance in the skies is useful to Alan's own situation.
