What’s the point of the senpai character? What does he actually add to the story? Why did she even hang out with him? Why?

The author just throw us a one use character last minute for the romance drama for it to tilt the balance of the story. Kinda confused why just for that few chapter he showed up, like why?
I come here 10 chap in thinking about this as a romance story about unusual charm not expecting the cliche romance drama XD
