The mods don't dictate the tags, that's entirely on the submitter to police it. If a submitter thinks a reverse spit roast is "GL" because the two girls are kissing then the mods don't give a fuck. Genre tags are just that, GENRE tags. A shounen series isn't "romance" just because the MC has a romantic partner. If you are using the genre tag as a content tag then I'm going to call you a fucking a moron.

Actually, that's not entirely correct. Sure the submitter originally puts the tags on the manga he or she submits, but mods /do/ police the tags. There are actually people with the role of "contributor" and one of our duties is to work to ensure that the site's data and metadata are consistent (or at least somewhat so, we can't catch EVERYTHING, although we're trying), and they can change/add/delete tags that are incorrect, etc. We often (at least I do) ask the mods if there is uncertainty in what we want or are about to do is correct and this subject has gotten a LOT of conversation in the contributors channel in the MDex discord server between the contribs and the mods, so we're not just changing things willy-nilly. Also, no offense, but it doesn't really matter that YOU might think they're genre tags or whatever. Tags are indicative of content. There are genre tags, too: shoujo, shonen, seinen, and josei. THOSE are actual demographic tags based on which magazine the comic currently runs (or ran) in. THOSE are not based on content, but every other tag is.
