except that the weird part is despite that they have Army, Navy and Air force, all three commands each have their have their own ground, naval and air assets.

That is really not that weird. Imperial Japan had a weird inter military rivalry between the Army and Navy as well. The navy had its own tanks and the army had its own ships. Its pretty much a miracle they got so far into Asia with the kind of disjointed armed forces they had.

"what if we just had people drop bombs on them with dragons?"
So you know the modern trope of treating horses like old-timey cars with an attitude that run on hay instead of petrol?
What's the carrying capacity of a dragon? how far can it travel without rest at that range? How long do you need to rest them afterwards? How much do you need to feed them? How well do they take being handled by other riders?

so, a bombing run could probably still do a lot of damage, but, like... probably don't think about it in terms of a b-23 or any other conventional aircraft.
Mages seem to be able to create material things out of nowhere (at least water, as suggested by the shower scenes in ch2). A dragon carrying a mage or two could solve the payload weight/volume problem.

a yes the inherent knowledge of men about military matters once again shines in an isekai story.
Even when he becomes a loli, man's thirst for war is unquenchable.

I am genuinely happy we are taking a break from the cutesy stuff to discuss war, logistics, and command.

Yeah as soon as they mentioned the Army-Navy rivalry, IJN and IJA comes to mind.

The three branches of US military may be butting heads all the time, but IJN-IJA rivalry was famously intense that there were stories on how their planes (both branches had their own air force) don't even use the same nuts bolts and screws.

US assets seem to be specialized to their respective branches though, like chair force infantry mainly focusing on airfield security.

Not replying to you in particular, just continuing the general discussion
