The possibility of dragons dropping bombs is something fantasy authors usually just conveniently forget about because it doesn't fit the generic fantasy aesthetic... Miranda knows what really matters, though.

Just once I'd like fantasy dragoons to be horse cavalry with long guns. Or if you want to keep the fantasy element, they could be mounted mages that cast long range spells from horseback. that would be rad as hell.
Warhammer Fantasy has Thrall Wizards of Tzeentch, basically what you described for mages.

Most fantasy settings with organized enough mage group like that take it one step further and just be the artillery.

Why bother with being cavalry when you can be safer off the battlefield sending magical bombardments in.
The horses can then go to the people who need to actually close the distance.

a yes the inherent knowledge of men about military matters once again shines in an isekai story.
they did spend 3-5 chapters just before now, setting up mc to have a total military hyperfixation. Albeit for (semi-?)modern militaries and not medieval iirc.

So it is not that unbelievable that they know some basics such as this (it may be way more than I know and have a good grasp on, but I can nevertheless recognize it to be mere basics of army-organization).

Remember, nothing is prohibited as a war crime unless the enemies can imagine it before it happens.

Like the t-shirt says, it's never a war crime the first time.

I actually enjoy the introduction of planned out logistics. Just waiting for all their measurements to be in doll units.

Because shooting into the enemy's side or rear is more effective than shooting into their front. In my imagined scenario dragon-riders and air superiority aren't a thing.

If in your imagination magic = gun/bow then I question what you're on since by what the series' shown and also most fantasy standard of magic it's quite the opposite.

Also again for each horse your supposed magic cavalry use, that's less horse to the actual melee cavalry.
Or that if magic requires focus, trying to do that while riding horse at high speed to 'flank' the enemies is probably not a good idea.

Given what series your pfp comes from, I'm not surprised about the magic artillery statement :p

Joking aside, I agree. Best usage of hard-to-train mages is as high-firepower long-range bombardment.

kinda hate it in isekai where the native world is apparently completely incompetent. To be fair, the re-organisation is something they wouldn't have thought of, but dropping things from the sky is basic shit

What about Dragons dropping number 2? Explosive dungs lit by dragon fire

Imagine the creator of BL and military warfare being the same person, I'd be shitting bricks.

She has the power to send me and my friend in a war and she also has the power to put me and my friend in the same bed.
How do you know she isn't using the war as a pretext to put you and your friend in that bed?

"what if we just had people drop bombs on them with dragons?"
So you know the modern trope of treating horses like old-timey cars with an attitude that run on hay instead of petrol?
What's the carrying capacity of a dragon? how far can it travel without rest at that range? How long do you need to rest them afterwards? How much do you need to feed them? How well do they take being handled by other riders?

so, a bombing run could probably still do a lot of damage, but, like... probably don't think about it in terms of a b-23 or any other conventional aircraft.
