When your a genius good grades are expected so praise naturally dies down as it stops being impressive
Just like when your a trouble maker with a history of bad grades such bad grades are expected and good grades are praised
Basically psychological come on keep up

You set those expectations, swim in the pool you made or stop doing so well
Wait- not like that

Ooooo lore
I was gonna say I don't care yet I find myself intrigued...
Damn got me, impressive
The only thing out of the ordinary is how she interprets things really

Have a nice day

Here comes the drama. Gonna say I always have a negative predisposition towards characters introduced just to start drama, whether they will actually come to add whatever inkling of value to the story that their trope usually does.

Yes, Rin is likely to be redeemed. That's more of a meta call in my mind, though, because it's a common theme to never involve categorical antagonistic characters who are "bad" for its own sake. I would argue this chapter creates depth for her character, but whether the reader sympathizes with is an individual judgment call. As of now, all we know is the lead-up, and then the aftermath with Ruka from Ruka's perspective. We have no real information at this time as to why Ria targeted Ruka, only that she left Ruka changed for the worse in her wake (as showcased by Ruka's behavior up until Suuna entered her life, and the tonal shift in who she was versus who she now is).
I agree with the rest of your comment, but I was curious what you meant by this paragraph and in particular this bolded part. I'm not sure what you mean because there are plenty of stories with irredeemable characters, including yuri manga.

While not in the story it does factor into law everywhere in the world, and this story is not exception to the rule (unless author stated otherwise). I mentioned murder as it is one of the worst crimes that can be done without offering any chance for redemption. In story "The Summer You Were There" FMC was able to redeem herself by the end despite her crime also being quite heavy
bullying the person to the point of mental breakdown. But in the end, while still not 100% comfortable around eachother they were able to speak and start a new kind of friendly relationship. Even if the scars of the past are still visible for both parties.
This might be a bit unrelated, but this is a crazy take. There was no crime in "The Summer You Were There" and the bullying we know was unintentional in the first place. Also, both of the relevant characters in "Summer" were in elementary school, hardly at the age that one would consider someone irredeemable for their actions.

As others have said, Rin is not a new introduction. She's from way back in chapter 19, which laid out what she did with (or to) a younger Ruka. Which may 'explain' why Ruka has been the way she is.

Now, bringing her back might be for 'drama', but we'll see.

If I wanted to read about dysfunctional childhood and sexual abuse, there are plenty of manga that deal with the subject in a more sophisticated, deep, and/or realistic manner.

This isn't contributing anything meaningful to the story, and it's squicktastically gross.

Dear sensei: If you don't understand anything about the subject, that's fine. I don't wish understanding it on anyone. But stay the f**k away from trying to use it as a plot device, if you're just going to turn it into a caricature.

The abuse was introduced in chapter 19, and you kept reading for 22 more chapters.

It's one thing to bring up a subject. It's another to completely botch it later, when you start trying to add your own spin without understanding what makes it tick.

If you don't believe me, ask HBO how much people loved the last season of Game of Thrones.

....I can fix her.

To be serious, this is not a character type I was expecting from this manga, and I kinda love her. She's all kinds of fucked up. The blood trickling down her fingertips is just *chef's kiss.
You may have her. Just go ahead and yank her right out of the story and fix her. Would be doing us all a favor

So… she needs some serious help… I’m thinking in a cell with padded walls. Like other’s I’m glad it wasn’t a “Here is the reason she is bad and why it is okay that she did bad things” troupe. There’s no justification in there at all (not that there could be for what she did) and she is just a pathetic person who hurt others, precious little Ruka included, just so that she could feel seen. But she had a negative lasting effect on Ruka because of that and for that she can not be forgiven (Ruka was a child but even if she wasn’t she was Ruka). :angery:
