They still eat through their mouths even if they just have to suck in the air.
As for sense of taste, they'd still need to be able to tell apart what's food and what's poison (e.g. sweet = carbs, bitter = alkaloid) because you know, the biproducts of some micro organisms are poisonous.
This still holds my suspension of disbelief considering that there are other humanoid visitors with human tastes. However, they mentioned a change in Kumika's metabolism - I don't think an air feeder would be able to be more active and move faster than a sloth. so pre-gourmet Kumika should have probably been very lethargic.
