The labyrinth is probably way better than a typical medieval town in this world. Think about of its amenities:
1. A Roppongi-style roach motel (though it most likely dismantled later)
2. A race track
3. Great garbage disposal system, with eco-friendly garbage incinerator (very rare in a medieval town where they just throw the trash from the windows).
4. A tax office that put the DMV to shame.
5. A casino!
6. A bath house (also a rarity in a medieval town)
7. A fancy restaurant with unique food.
8. A Fashion show
9. A cinema

@natchu96 ...what if Mother is Kumoko? And since her millions of babies are clones of herself, they are all also Kumokos, but only some of them managed to survive for long (or are a near 100% successful clone with some retained memories), and that's who our protaganist Kumoko is. And what if Mother Kumoko wasn't the original Kumoko either (or maybe she is), and so what we have in the main series right now is Young Kumoko plotting to kill Old/Future Kumoko, and when Young Kumoko grows up and make baby clones herself too, the cycle repeats.
