This marked the 1.5 year period of time where MangaDex didn't have a comments section. Now it does again but most comments are made when a chapter releases.

The latter. The only conversations in this story that happen in Japanese are between D and the spider and between reincarnations (rarely, usually only to check to see if somebody is one).
