If you want to know all the story read the WN but remember that after LN volume 3 (labyrinth arc ending) the story change significantly and the manga follows the LN. After volume 3 the overall story is similar (what happened) but not the how/when/who.

I just wanted to say that Volume three of the LN is released officially in the US and was delivered yesterday (if only I wasn't literally in the middle of another book).

p.s. linkhuesitos15, is it different enough to be worth reading both? I know that for publication purposes some light novels change substantially from their WN base. I am just curious. Thank you.

@MomoBear It really is a spoiler, though. It's not a big one, but it's something that can't be reasonably concluded from what we have in the manga so far, and it's something that won't be confirmed for quite some time.

Around this time in the light novels there was a lot of people who believed that the demon king was what the protagonist would eventually become, and honestly that wasn't a particularly erroneous assumption. Even though it isn't the case in the end, there are a fair few details that could be read as hinting towards that conclusion. Confirming that the MC doesn't become the demon king means those people don't get to have fun speculating and won't be surprised when it turns out to not be the case.

Yes, after volume 3 the LN has several (big) changes to the WN.
Example:
In the LN

Kumo fights against Mother (I mean a real fight not just absorb her soul via Soul link)
Kill two or three (I dont remember well) puppet taratects
When Kumo is saving Sophia from Potimas, Potimas used Gloria in that battle not a simple cyborg/elf body
On volume 9 Wrath joins to the party but Sophia isn't on the Demon Academy yet so maybe the next volume the substory main plot is going to be her school life (Felmina, Waldo, etc)

The author said that the changes in the LN are not going to affect the WN in other words the LN has many changes but at some point the author is going to reconect the LN plot with the WN and both will have the same plot forward that point.
She also said that reconect the LN with the WN is going to take more or less other 10 volumes (she said this when volume 8 was the lastest volume).

@linkhuesitos15, so, if I am understanding you correctly many (some) of the changes are primarily inserted to be more appealing/gentle than it would otherwise be (i.e. when not being published and sold you can say and write anything, but when something is published it uas to conform to a broader audience. (i.e. the absence of the first seven episodes of Card Captor Sakura, bathing suits drawn on people in onsens, etc).
I am hearing that, similar to how the manga differs from the light novel because half the story is missing, parts of the original web novel is absent from the light novel (for a time any way).

The primary reason I ask is that I don't really see the need to reread something if the difference is a name or a more gruesome depiction of someone dying.
If there is more difference than cosmetic, and actually contextual difference then I'll happily read both. (And, perhaps I misunderstood what you wrote.)

Sophia vs Shun in volume 3
All the battle vs the UFO, this isn't the same UFO that is appeared in the Battle versus Pothimas. On volume 7 when Shiro and Ariel are exploring one laboratory the security system is activated and the UFO is the last bot (is carrying a bomb that will destroy half country)so it force Ariel, Shiro, Dustin and Kuro to make a truce with Pothimas (the bomb will destroy elf village too)
2 battles with Wrath (Sophia vs Wrath and Shiro vs Wrath)
The relationship with Ariel also changes at the start of the travel to the Demon country Ariel and Shiro were in a cold war, they didn't trust each other and would attack the other if it was advantageous (they actually tried to kill each other several times without Sophia noticing)
The party meet Dustin on the travel exploring more depth of his personality
Ronant meeting with Sophia and stalking her when he listen about her Goshujin-sama (Master)

PV for the anime was just released and I have to say, it looks pretty decent? There's quite a bit of CGI involved but overall there's still regular animation and everything looks really vibrant and colorful. Not an entire fan of the way Kumo looks though to be honest. They should have chose her manga design over the LN version, but I guess it makes sense why they did it.

Man, that PV looks really bad. All that garbage tier CG, The VA really sounds dead inside and I see no point in covering the classmate's boring subplot given this show won't be more than 12 episodes. Seems kadokawa is desperate to shill for the LN to the point of using the ugly ass spider design from the LN. I really can't see the show being good at all.

The PV only shows 2 characters in CG Alaba and Kumo (mother and the other monsters are normal animation for now), the CG used in Kumo is decent at least but Alaba is really bad it could improve with better textures and time.
Maybe you don't know but spiders have a very complex movement that is really difficult and slow to animate using normal drawing CG fix that problem, and why they include the other classmates well maybe you didn't noticed but the anime is advertisement for the LN not the MANGA it's obvious they're going to use the LN design of Kumo.
On LN adaptations is common to cut some parts but you can't cut Shun's story (it's literally half volume) you can say "the manga did it just fine" and yeah that "fine" now means that you will have 10 or more chapters without Kumo (if they showed the chapter B1 here that means that there's not going to be a spin-off manga for the side chapters) maybe not in row but the plot need those chapters to have coherence.
Even if you can't believe it there're readers who like Shun's story and just because "you" don't like it than means it should be cut from the anime.
Also Kumo's seiyu is Yuuki Aoi (Tanya Degurechaff) a really good voice actor.
P.D. I prefer a thousand times a decent but short anime to a shit anime with 4 seasons. This is the first trailer without release date the studio have time to improve.

The monkeys are cg too, chances are all the monsters will be cg generated. Maybe you don't know but before CG was a thing monsters were drawn and there are lots of animation trick. I know the anime is advertisement for the LN, that doesn't change the fact the LN design is subpar compared to the manga's. It's not OBVIOUS that they have to go with the LN design, Youjo senki's char design was anything but close to the LN's so your argument is moot. the voice actors make the voices they're told to make, so it doesn't matter how well she performed in youjo senki if she's told to do that lame voice on kumo.
Just by reading the comments in each chapter you can already see people complaining about the side-stories taking up chapters. It's pretty obvious it will 12 episodes so how much will be kumo content will be skipped to make room for them? Filler is filler even if a few like it. And for the looks of it, you won't get what you want, the most likely result will be a shit and short anime with 2/3 of kumo and 1/3 of boring subplots that won't be concluded in 12 episodes or a shit anime with more than 2 seasons. Pick your poison.

Side chapters are a lot shorter than the main chapters they can't take 2/3 of the anime.
This is an adaptation is obvious that content will be skipped just like all other LN adaptation but 12-13 chapters is the standart to adapt 3 volumes (this is what the PV showed)
Volume 3 ends on chapter 150 (WN) up to this point there's only 24 Shun's chapters (it's not even 15% of the chapters) Do you really think that this few chapters can take 2/3 of the anime?
These 150 chapters are considered the main plot's prologue by the readers.

While the anime is nothing more than a simple adaptation to promote and boost LN sales, alongside increase exposure for the series as a whole at the end of the day, the way they'll likely go about adapting it is kind of disappointing. Since the other side character stories are about as coherent to the main plot as Kumo's, the anime will more than likely take up at least a good half of the cour depending on the pacing and execution of the producers involved.

The overall animation doesn't look entirely horrible despite CGI being used, but there's much to be desired. I'm not overly harsh on it since the manga is great though so meh.
