Not sure what it is, some kind of filled bread, sandwich, or pie, but it must be the best of its kind to make her cry.
Look up Asian bakeries and pastries. They have all sorts of weird (by Western standards) buns and pastries that are really interesting combinations of savory and sweet. A common one is to melt cheese onto a sweet bun with some meat, or a hotdog. They also add things like scallions, garlic, red beans, pork, mochi, etc in lots of different combinations, and sometimes make some really out there stuff. Today I saw one that I can only describe as an Oreo sub sandwich.
