That's actually a bad lesson to learn as a hero though. While its a good thing to not be too reckless if you just don't fight until you have a full plan and are strong enough then not only does it stop you from getting better at fighting in general but a hero is also about public opinion. When you lose that you partially lose the point of your existence.
Unless of course the plan was to fight through and save the world by yourselves, then you could do whatever.

@nfzeta The stereotypical hero who martyrs themselves for the country and/or others sure, but there are plenty of heroes who aren't cliche, my favorite being military heroes, for example, Esdeath from Akame Ga Kill was venerated by the empires populace despite being a self-serving monster.

What's with the title? I'd expect 'The Hero V'. Or is the Japanese deliberately different to make it more obvious that our battle addict can be counted as a hero too?

@gaigous yes that's the thing though, this hero and his role is definitely closer to the former. You don't haveto martyr yourself but you also can't be known to be retreating from so many situations if there is a risk.

Also Esdeath wasn't what you would call a hero. She was feared and respected but not in the manner of a hero but more just an ruthless and effective general. Usually, even if they're not the typical good guy, to be a hero requires aiming for a goal that many like and follow you for. Esdeath hardly had much in that manner, as you said she was a self-serving monster (still probably my favourite character in that manga)
