MC's not exactly rich. His family is, and the Merchant doesn't exactly know he's been kicked (as far as I remember), but it's also just smart of Dad to try and tie his family to MC's name through his daughter. Otherwise, yes, it's not exactly unfounded, and there's nothing saying the daughter herself can't just be attracted to a hot boy roughly her age range who just saved her twice, as you stated.
