Why do some authors feel the need to give their mc's disabilities for no other reason than to give them a sad backstory etc? Pretty much never actually prevents them from becoming strong and capable in a fight, or otherwise have the lacking depth-perception hamper their craft massively. Always end up successful nonetheless :/

In general I do agree, though when you have a power like his that is all about thinking up a clever usage, having handicaps to have to work around creates a need for otherwise convoluted and redundant ideas.
