I love that she seems to be surrounded by three versions of her lost love, the daughter represents the past, Yae represents the future she couldn't have with her and her kouhai represents a present she isn't interested in because she's to hung up on what she wanted but couldn't have.

considering though how often early in the series Kusanagi is motivated by chances to be around Yae I think for a good chunk of this series she's still somewhat hung up on what could have been. Also considering it gets alluded to that back then Yae well... it may not have been completely unrequited.
