I honestly don't care either way, but the mystery of what is happening is just...dragging too much at this point and there is no need for that. Just let the audience know what is up so we can progress in the story already. Whatever she is doing is whatever.

Hol up, they got a point. Waiting for a "is it NTR?" reveal is a completely different beast compared to "will the MC and FMC become a couple". Regular people would be fed up by around chapter 3, while some are still around due to sunk cost fallacy. It takes a special breed of trash connoisseur to fully appreciate "the wait" for this type of manga.

Sure, it's just chapter 8, of a bi-weekly manga, with chapters split in two, effectively making it a monthly, that had two breaks in-between. Considering the manga started publishing May last year, that's 10 months since the manga started, we could've been at chapter 10 right now if it weren't for the breaks.

If all goes according to schedule, raw chapter 9.2 should officially release tomorrow, 11am JST.

But it’s the central question of the manga? Like it’s ABOUT “Is this chick fucking dudes or is it all just a misunderstanding”. If you were reading a manga about finding out who killed someone, you wouldn’t expect the case to be solved in chapter 8 (unless it was like, real short)

I do understand the frustration of time, but also remember that manga are written not just to be read on release, but also to be read after, and while it would be satisfying to a reading in real time to get the answers sooner because they’re waiting, it would make the story unsatisfying for someone who can read everything at once. It’s a unique issue with the format and something that’s not easy to balance.

My point exactly, waiting for “Is this chick fucking dudes or is it all just a misunderstanding” is not the same compared to the usual wait for the usual stuff, it eats at the readers in a different way. NTR enjoyers, masochists, special trash connoisseurs can handle the wait well, more so than regular readers, especially if they're reading in real time as it releases.

A story's initial hook shouldn't take this long to resolve, otherwise it would frustrate readers to no end, and typically runs its course by the end of the first volume. The bulk of a story shouldn't be about the hook. In this case, “Is this chick fucking dudes or is it all just a misunderstanding”, shouldn't take more priority compared to the characters' progression. This is how one ends up with a collection of short works, instead of long multi-arc epics.

Anyone reading this manga here, at this point in time, are more or less reading as it releases. I doubt you'd find someone, like mrclamp for example, complaining if they're able to read in bulk from start to finish (from question to answer). It's "not having the answer" that's frustrating, the wait just makes it worse.

Edit:
Short spoiler: Still no truth, pretend pro wrestling, return of Luna's innocent act with indecent moans
Long spoiler: Luna goes on about how much more attached Naoto was to her when they were kids, and by the time they reunited, he got bigger and distanced himself, how much more mature he was compared to herself. Naoto says it's been 10 years so there's bound to be some changes. Luna then mentions that perhaps it was just her that was feeling lonely all those years they don't meet, how happy she was when it was decided for him to live with her, how they'll be as close as back then.

Naoto tells her that he feels the same. Naoto asks why she stopped appearing back then, and how when he asks his mother, she won't tell him. How he can't even send a letter because Naoto never knew where she lived. Then when they finally reunite, she's like a different person. Airhead Luna breaks tension by asking was she cuter back then, Naoto retorts by saying she still is.

Naoto tells Luna that he too wants to be close with Luna like back in the past. Luna hugs him and mentions that their feelings (about wanting to be close like in their childhood) are mutual then. She then immediately asks Naoto what they should play, pretend doctor, or hide and seek, all while hugging him. Naoto tells her he'll play with her just to get her clinging self off him, and it was decided to be pretend pro wrestling with a headlock on Naoto.

From the headlock, Naoto got treated to a head scissors, a scarf hold, then an arm bar. Luna taunts the worn down Naoto with her best smug brat face. Naoto then SWEEPS THE LEG, then props her up to the world's sloppiest knee bar. Exploiting how Luna's body is still as stiff as back then, and seemingly even stiffer now in comparison, Naoto easily gets a submission out of her.

Naoto, as payback for all the moves she pulled on him, gets on top and proceeds to give Luna's leg a good stretch. If going with speech bubbles only, for three pages, one would think someone's first time was being taken, but nope, they're just stretching. With the two in a compromising position warranting a black censor bar, Luna moans and pants heavily. Seeing the aftermath, Naoto snaps back to lame protagonist mode. Luna starts laughing and tells Naoto for them to become even closer to each other, more so than back then.

Chapter ends with Luna remembering she got a pair of cinema tickets from Hiba, finds the tickets and invites Naoto, telling him to keep his schedule open on his next break.

It honestly feels like this is a good point to just put this series on hold for now until there's more chapters out because it's just making my OCD go ballistic.
The timeline is so fucked with the events, it's hard to make sense of the order in which the events in the past happened, and to some degree, the present. With this chapter, I'm starting to wonder if the biting incident was only the catalyst for the police incident and what happened was a series of events in reprisal that snowballed from there.

This is just speculation on my part, but I'm going to assume that the events in the past probably played out in this order.

The picture with the three of them
The biting incident
The meeting at the shrine
The "festival" preparations
-possibly other events in between
The police incident
Luna possibly forced to leave because of the incident

I'm guessing that Luna and her friends may of been planning and did something that got them in trouble with the law and while Naoto was the reason for it, he had no part in it and was never told about the events because he may of felt guilty for it and because he would of been too young to understand.

This might just be more wild speculation on my part, but I can't think of any other good reason someone would go completely no contact with someone they care about that much and Naoto's parents refused to tell him why.

It might do you good if you're not feeling up for it, as some folks that I've seen in the comments of earlier chapters seems to have done so. The side-text on the final page suggests the following chapter/s would focus on the two, so at the very least, progress is rolling.

That ONE wild speculation indeed, really went out there with little information we just got. For starters, the Japanese would typically disassociate themselves from a relative that had a run-in with the law. There's no way Naoto's mom would agree letting him stay with a relative that would do something that would get themselves into that kind of trouble.

Here's a quick list of what we know:
  • It has been 10 years since the two last saw each other
  • We don't actually know where their hometown supposedly is
  • Naoto is 19 years old, and is in his 1st year of college/uni
  • Flashbacks' dates are undetermined, are all over the place, but there's a clear progression
  • Luna brings a luggage suitcase on her when she's in their hometown
  • Last time he saw Kawashina was after the bite
We can then determine that:
  • Flashbacks can be over the course of several summers
  • Luna visits their hometown during summer
  • The likely summer festival could've been Obon
  • The picture was taken before the bite
  • Luna is roughly 7~9 years older than Naoto

Police got involved with the bite incident. It's more likely that an over-zealous Luna called the cops on Kawashina, it didn't end up as a serious affair but it soured the relations of both parties as Kawashina's brother seems to know Luna, causing Kawashina to either move out, or stop showing up in front of Naoto... that or the bite awakened something within Kawashina, and her family kept her from being near Naoto ever since.

Possibly because of Luna making a big deal of the incident and involved the police, Luna earned a reputation amongst her peers in their hometown that she'll stop at nothing if it involves Naoto, and this is what caused Luna to stop visiting altogether as well.

It's really just one of the few theories that I'm thinking of right now.

I'd say it's also possible that the meeting at the shrine may of happened before the biting incident and that was actually Kawashina's brother and Luna was actually turning him down which could of resulted in him calling her a slut out of spite.

It could also just be Atsushi not putting much effort into changing Naoto's appearance, but he definitely looks the same age in all the flashbacks. So I was running with the theory that these flashbacks are taking place from the same year, but it's very likely that Atsushi just never made much effort to distinguish Naoto's age.

I also considered that Luna was closer to 5-7 years older than Naoto and was possibly around the time she would be entering high school.

The other theory I have regarding what may of happened is one that I really hope isn't where this is going, because I'm not really a fan of using it as a plot point in a series.

It's entirely possible that Luna may of been sexually assaulted on the last year she visited and the reason she never went back was because of the trauma from it and the reason she went no contact with Naoto is because she thought he knew and would think badly of her. After the assault her family would of moved away to get away from the place it happened and she would never return to their home town again. This could also explain why Naoto's mother wouldn't tell him why she never came back, to protect him from knowing about the horrible thing that happened. It's also possible that her hair colour is a result from the traumatic event, and isn't actually dyed that colour, aka Mary Antoinette syndrome.

I REALLY hope that's not where the story goes from here though.

It's also possible that some other traumatic event may off happened, but I'm really hoping I don't see a sexual violence tag added to this series. Or it could just be some silly and stupid reason, who knows.

I'm still speculating that the home town is in Hokkaido, but this is mostly because of Hiba's surname and (from what i've read anyway) Atsushi is originally from Hokkaido.
