That was sort of removed as a possibility towards the start when they tried to stay awake and stop the swap but were forced asleep, it then gets left to the partner to sort out a sleeping person.

I'm torn, because I don't need to see Lemon swallow her suffering watching her friends from the cuck chair for 50 chapters, but the way she just sort of moved on from the prima facie origin of the central conflict kinda really... flat. Like she obsesses about this for years, initially opts to fight, and then just shrugs and says "eh, nevermind".

I'd say her denials about not having feelings for Sunao were cope, but this mangaka hasn't done any subversion of emphatic in-character denials so I think that's really just where this is going. (Plus childhood friend debuff).

I also sort of like the idea of a guy and a girl who are close and over any romantic or passionate sexual attraction; I like the ex & MMC's dynamic in "Living with the queen from highschool" where they are very clearly over each other as romantic partners but still good friends.

Or to condense that, I don't have any problems with where the story ended up at, but the exact route it took to her was sort of bullshit.

Yup. It feels like the author had ideas for more stuff but looks like they've been bringing home ever since Lemon opted to forfeit the MMC bowl.
(But never give up the ship; as long as there is an unread chapter, a page, a PANEL there is always the chance she pulls off a last minute C O M A S T R A T victory)

Nah, there have been a few hints towards Lemon and Kogahara having compatibility throughout the story. The first one that comes to mind is on Kogahara and Sunao's first date, it actually ended up being Lemon inside Sunao's body, and the entire time, Kogahara was like, "Woah, Sunao is more charming than usual," and then later she finds out she was falling for Lemon in Sunao's body and feels embarrassed about it. Kind of a weird detail to include in the story if it was meant to end with Sunao and Kogahara as the end couple, but maybe the author is just throwing things out there and seeing what sticks/making it up as they go.

they did the same with Sunao in Lemon's body and his friend ... it was also done in Your Name, it was more to show in a person that is averse to relationships getting shown the feminine/masculine side of the man/woman kinda makes them drop their guard as friendly mentions too...

more of a compatibility thing (or a trope used for gender-swap stories), if the topic would have been used, with both cases they would have made them think it more about why they liked the other person, but it was more to put them on the radar, in the end Kogahara feel in love with Sunao's personality.

At no point was this gonna be anything more than a vanilla boy and girl ending. These are 18 year olds who literally fall off chairs if they hear the word sex.

Lemon dumped him because of another girl who liked him was going to get her friends to bully her and worries that once they eventually break up they won't be friends anymore. Literally none of this is Sunao's fault. He's blaming himself for not being able to read minds at this point. I am allowed to feel bad for him thinking he was and still is a bad boyfriend and was at fault in the breakup.
