I just want Lemon to get a W already. I need to go to the future. The characters in this manga being so "real" and Lemon's design being so kyuut will make me always root for Lemon.

oh god, please open up, Sunao you should've learned already that overthinking your worries doesn't work when stuff keeps moving. Talk with Natsumi, maybe not solve things right away but like, she worries about both you and Lemon, and you are in the film club you must know love triangles without communication are no good.

Why does this feel like the latest instance of Kogahara being reduced to a plot device to solve a very simple problem between Lemon and Sunao?

Lemon and Sunao having the history they do, the (for whatever reason still unaddressed) mutual supernatural occurrence that they do, and managing to at least talk about the one big misunderstanding that ripped them apart, with added years of growth and experience between them....and they still can't actually talk to one another?

It begins to beggar belief.
Lemon I sort of get, except she's simply recursing into her old habits and ...kinda undoing a bunch of her supposed character growth by immediately clamming up and putting her own needs last.

But Sunao likes Kogahara. But rather than do anything to make meaningful progress with her, regardless of which body he's in, and is instead sitting here talking to Kogahara about his issues with Lemon, because he....didn't (couldn't?) simply voice those thoughts he had walking home with Lemon, out loud to Lemon?

I'm beginning to think Kogahara deserves better than this series.

This is one of those "something is definitely up but if you ask whats up thatll just agitate them and they wont tell you whats up of their own volition" moments thats hard to handle. I think asking kohagara is a good first step but you probably need to bite the bullet and ask lemon herself, since its clearly gnawing at her.

Ideally, lemon should be able to fix this problem herself if given time, but she has a historically tereible record with fixing her own problems so maybe its best if someone helps her.

the thing that bothers me about Lemon, is that while it's all well and good to be able to rely on others, I'm not convinced that's as center a "core character issue" as her incessant need to put herself last and clam up about what's actually bothering her.

She did have no one in middle school to reach out to, because she refused to actually talk to Sunao which lead to their breakup and complete ceasing of contact until college. But she did find

Kogahara, who reached out to her, and then (unless I really misremember the flashback) effectively held Lemon's hand all the way through high school and got Lemon back on her feet.

Now, though, Lemon's had a huge bit of character growth, resolved that initial miscommunication with Sunao, and....she's back to square one with clamming up about her feelings of unrequited love for Sunao and her desire to not hurt Kogahara's chances with him.

To me, that's a regression of her character growth of confidence and communication, and once again she's now falling back on "I don't know how to solve this so someone please bail me out".
That's effectively a repetition of history and a nullification of ~70 chapters of character growth.
So I don't know what the author wants to do, here. Because Lemon's just going in circles at this point, in the narrative sense, only this time she risks dragging multiple important people down with her, instead of "only" her childhood best friend/boyfriend.

And Sunao's also far from faultless in this, but that's a different topic that strays from the point you'd initially made.

Sunao: I mean, random annoying dudes come up to ME all the time when I'm in your body, so yeah, are you sure you'll be fine?

Lemon: planning out some 5d chess trying to figure out her own emotions, the conversation topic completely unrelated to what Sunao is thinking about:

Now Kogahara is providing romantic counseling to both of them? Thirdwheeling intensifies.

Being completely fair, talking to him about this topic is going to create so much more of a mess for him. I think she's actually just stuck in a real shitty situation and there's no good answer for what to do here. She fucked up bad and made the worst decision by not communicating properly with him back in middle school, but this time is way different. She potentially hurts him and Natsumi by opening up.
