LOL. Jinshi, you idiot. Is it that hard to ask her to stay or something? Or tell her your feelings? 😂 MAN UP. COME ON.

He looks like Tamaki (from Ouran High School) growing mushrooms HAHAHHAHA

Lawdies that country was insane.

A lady did a bad thing so anyone who ever had anything to do with her extended family, even to the point of illegal claims of family, are fired?
That is like killing someone for having the same taste in food or star sign as someone else you hate.

Sometimes this doesn't make any sense... just because someone's family did business with the family of someone else who committed a crime they get laid off? What the actual heck is this manga lol
Unless it's actually historically accurate and people really were that insane back then in that area lol

@XenonXYZ From my understanding, they usually just killed or sold into slavery lower maids in these cases. Getting a severance is what is unbelievable to me. Of course my basis is other historical fiction featuring ancient China. They usually would have every family member at the very least killed if a royal or consort had their life threatened.

@XenonXYZ Ohhh boy, yes and no. This isn't really historically accurate per se, but not in the way you're thinking. In reality, it was sometimes harsher. A lot of the times, getting laid off would be the least of your worries

@Quiescent-Rose I'm still wondering about that as well. It could be that she was an orphan and they had no way to prove she wasn't part of the family since family registry and dna testing wasn't really a thing back then.

Yo this dude is a bum I take back everything I said

Lol bro you’re about to cause the girl you like to be sold into prostitution just because you don’t want her to feel like a “toy”. What kinda reasoning even is that. I mean ig he doesn’t know her circumstances but still bruh

I don't get it. Fonmin was the only one who commited a crime but not only are they punishing her family but also the people who just had dealings with them?

That seems kinda excessive. I thought only Ancient China did stupid shit like the nine familial exterminations.
This was done to keep any further retaliation for Fonmin's death by her family since she came from a prestigious merchant family. Fonmins family has the money to retaliate or seek revenge on the inner palace. One could never be too careless when dealing with plots of revenge, because the Fonmine family could kidnap or take hostage one of the commoner maids' family members and force them to add poison to the inner palace food, perform covert bombings (terrorism), or directly murder someone in the inner palace.

One problem with that is he doesn't know that she will be sold off by the old Granny. He is giving her a large severance pay, hopefully, it will fulfill the needed money for Granny.

the only thing you learn from looking at mangadex forums is that people don't know how to fucking read, lol
1. jinshi doesn't know about the tab maomao ran up (who would, it's not like everyone knows pairin's price lmfao)
2. this is based on ancient china (it's pretty fucking blatant too, lol, if not always perfectly historically accurate), so everyone other than maomao would normally get chop chopped, maomao due to her role in helping end the case would get some compensation like severance one way or another- well, it depends. in any case, the emperor would probably put in a word for getting lihua back to normal.
3. jinshi vs maomao's ridiculous power imbalance means that jinshi in any way suggesting he'd like maomao to stay would basically sound like an order, and he didn't have the foresight or time to go tiptoeing (he's not that good at it either lol). it also means it will take a long-ass time before this pairing can develop normally (haven't read the novel in a long while lul)

seems really weird choice to let go the person who has been so effective at preventing your concubines from murdering each other

@Quiescent-Rose: All part of the scam. The kidnappers pretended to be her family, and sold her off to the court to get the money and part of her income in their name. Presumably, threats were made against her father to ensure compliance. Now that particular 'family' has been cut out of dealings with the court entirely, MaoMao not only does not have anyone keeping her there, as a supposed member of the merchant family she's also supposed to be kicked out.
I can sort of understand that, except that she's already informed everyone that she was kidnapped. Jinshi even apologizes for it, but her kidnappers are still making money off of her (or would have, if not for the broken vase). But then why is she also at risk of being sold by the granny? If she now has an official family registry, wouldn't that mean she's can't also be owned by the brothel? The brothel is also a fairly famous one, one which high level officials can't easily enter. Why haven't they gone to complain that their slave girl was kidnapped and passed off as someone else's? Why did she have to pass half of her wages to the granny while working for her kidnappers, while the brothel does nothing?

Plus, she's also working as an apothecary, living with her adoptive father. Is her work there being recognized by the brothel in some way?
