I get the impression that he used to have some sort of either interest or part of the industry. Just going by the way he talks and behaves. I'm not so sure it's down to being a "dirty old salary-man". I might be wrong, I haven't checked over the next 2 volumes yet, just my opinion.
I said the same thing a few chapters ago, someone replied that it might be related to his work, he works at a magazine if I'm not mistaken

Either works in the industry or used to crossdress at an all-boys school himself would be my guess for an actual reason. But that's boring.

The whole joke of this manga is that the old guy is also a femboy like the "girl" he's always watching, but he never acts on the impulse. The pattern of most of the chapters is the old guy thinking "damn she's cute I wish I could be like that--too bad I'm a dude", cut to young guy openly crossdressing at an all boys school, not a care in the world.

You can always do that. The only real thing stopping you is “yourself”, and your fear of what others will think. That what that manga basically says, and why I like it.
The fact that dude can recognize brands and specific products at a glance (or sniff) is incredible, and it’s also incredible that he could find the words to describe the makeup style to find answers online on what was the name. Heck, just knowing that these things have names is incredible. XD
I know a bit about these things because I really like fashion games, but I would be very far below him. XD (ok, there’s some cheating as the author can make him know as much as he want, but eh.)

Full on crossdressing from him at the end might be too much, but while he doesn't seem to be as passionate at his job in comparison , it'd be interesting if he switched jobs to work for a beauty production company lol
If not at least buy himself a cute accessory or so even if he doesn't buy makeup (not that 'male makeup' isn't also a thing if you're not including crossdressing or even just some nice skincare)
Honestly he's amazing. He didn't use these stuff himself, nor did he use it in a professional setting. And yet he could keep up with the trends.
I unfortunately never have anything I could feel interest in this deep (probably due to years of depression), so I'm really jealous of him.
And recently, I'm kinda curious about cute stuff. But years of living near close minded people made me feel afraid of trying.

I feel you. I myself have a couple skirts that I still struggle to wear, my father always getting ridiculously angry every time I showed any interest in dresses and skirts. I wear them mostly inside… I managed to answer the door a couple time with them for food delivery, slowly getting used to it...
I also made sure to surround myself with friends that do understand my hang ups, that encourage me to go over them without pushing me too much. It’s a slow process, but I feel like it’ll be worth it in the long run.
And it’s never too late… I’m nearing my 40s myself. :X
