Honestly, the MC's parents were correct to bitchslap their son to not be an artist.
With that kind of mentality, where: "I don't care if I'm a hobo or something, I just want to paint and feel good about painting tralala~" -- what are the parents supposed to say? Sure son, go ahead? The boy's fucking nuts.

That being said, I prefer to read into this chapter, as -- they're trolling Argent, because they know Argent just wants the MC for his summoning, not for his art. So they came up with some stupid BS blabber to reject him.

I mean, the MC currently IS successful. He's a home owner, practically a village-chief, with people under his command, and a lord as his sponsor / in his debt. He's successful enough, to the point he can wank under a waterfall all his life, and still be considered successful.

It just makes more sense to think that the MC was trolling, rather than actually be that airheaded, tbh...

I Was more referring to comment about the parents, but with how painfully sincere Tougo is I'd say it's 50/50 whether he's really asking, or if it will roll into a challenge. He has the power, technically, to do serious damage to anyone who threatens his living condition.
